Ugh…Politics…

I really have never been one to care about Politics, not even the tiniest bit. When it came down to me voting for President, I talked to my friends in the military, and asked them who they would want me to vote for, and then when I went I voted for who they thought would be the best. I hate politicians, I hate hearing about them, I hate hearing about everything, but then today, after finding out that Obama plagiarized Deval Patrick’s speech. I was disturbed. Not because I liked Obama, and not because I wanted him to be the next president, I was disturbed because as a journalism student, and a journalist in my head at least right now, it made me absolutely sick.

That was someone else’s work, and the fact that he stole his words, is ridiculous. Ironically Obama’s speech was called, “Words Matter” and Patrick’s speech was called “Just Words”. You can read more about the similarities here. I hope knowing that Obama plagiarized shows that the man can NOT be trusted. Stealing someone’s words is the same as going into their house and taking their belongings. Oddly enough Obama’s campaign is not putting out a statement, however they did have Patrick call the New York Times to issue this statement:

“Senator Obama and I are long-time friends and allies. We often share ideas about politics, policy and language,” Patrick said in the statement. “The argument in question, on the value of words in the public square, is one about which he and I have spoken frequently before. Given the recent attacks from Senator Clinton, I applaud him responding in just the way he did.”

Isn’t it interesting that they had Patrick issue the statement himself, and he himself brushed it off. It’s ridiculous, I don’t care if you are friends with the man he stole YOUR WORDS. They’re not, “JUST WORDS” they are your work, your thoughts, your property.

To have a Presidential Candidate plagiarize is ridiculous, it would have been so simple for Obama to say, “My good friend said…” or “In the words of…” it doesn’t have to be stealing give credit where credit is due.

That’s my rant on politics. I am planning on getting involved now and researching the candidates and their opinions more in depth. It’s amazing what one little thing can do to wake someone up.

By the way if you want to see the video of Patrick and Obama’s speeches here is the video. Also, a big thanks to PerezHilton for pointing this out, to everyone…love him or hate him…he’s always got the scoop ;)
