Eight Belles
I always take things very personally. Last season there was a Stanley Cup final game on right before the Derby, the game was cut short so the Derby could start its pre-show. Needless to say I was bitter at horse racing. This year, my mom wanted to watch so I sat on the couch and watched. I picked my horse, RecaptureTheGlory, simply because he had no spaces in his name. The race started and the little filly, Eight Belles, hung in like a champ. The race finished and Big Brown won. It was over, I wanted to change the channel until I heard that the little filly was injured. They showed her laying down on the track. I felt awful, it’s never a good thing when a horse is laying down. Eventually they said, they immediately euthanized, due to her two broken ankles. I began to cry. How can a sport do something like this? I think back to the Barbaro situation, and they spent so much money to get the horse so he could live a happy life, and they just weren’t able to do it. Then more questions began going through my head. Do these trainers, and owners really care about these horses? I mean do they consider them a pet? If they did I think they would do anything in their power to keep them alive. I think the owners of Eight Belles and the other horses in the derby are simply dollar signs to these people. Eight Belles finished second in the Kentucky Derby, and I hope she is up in the pasture in the sky having fun and running around.
My uncle takes horses in that have been starved and abused and he rehabs them. I go down there and simply fall in love with the horses, there is one horse that my Uncle has had for quite some time, Ole Blue, and although I am not down there all the time, I love that horse. He has such a great personality, he can let himself out of his stall in the morning, and he turns on the light, and wakes up the other horses and lets them out. I mean come on, horses are amazing animals. Anyway, the above picture is of Ole Blue.

Alright, I have been in a bad mood all day, so here goes my attempt at posting a happy little blog. I woke up at about 7 and texted Sarah to see if I could wait to go into work at 10. Which I ended up doing, then when I got there, I got an order faaaaaaaaaaaar away, which normally I wouldn’t mind but with the snow and everything else, it wasn’t fun. It took me an hour just to get up there, where I almost wrecked about 2 times, and saw a ton of cars driving off the road. Anyway, so I make my way up to the office and when I get there I’m on empty, well my gas is on empty. I called Sarah to tell her I just got there, and she said that the office had just closed. GREEATTTTT. I had to wait there until the rep got there and took the food and I headed to get some gas. It was about 11:15 when I got on the road, and headed home, I drove down 75, sliding all over the place. Finally I made it to the final stretch and hadn’t had any moments where I felt like I had no control, but as I was getting off our exit, my car did a 360…yea not cool. Thankfully, I was fine, and no one hit me. I headed home and walked in right at 1:15 it took me exactly TWO hours to get home. Anyway, I have been in a grumpy mood all day and probably will be the rest of the day. Oh well, happy Friday everyone, be safe.
