Eight Belles

 100_2539.JPG

I always take things very personally.  Last season there was a Stanley Cup final game on right before the Derby, the game was cut short so the Derby could start its pre-show.   Needless to say I was bitter at horse racing.  This year, my mom wanted to watch so I sat on the couch and watched.  I picked my horse, RecaptureTheGlory, simply because he had no spaces in his name.  The race started and the little filly, Eight Belles, hung in like a champ.  The race finished and Big Brown won.  It was over, I wanted to change the channel until I heard that the little filly was injured.  They showed her laying down on the track.  I felt awful, it’s never a good thing when a horse is laying down.  Eventually they said, they immediately euthanized, due to her two broken ankles.  I began to cry.  How can a sport do something like this?  I think back to the Barbaro situation, and they spent so much money to get the horse so he could live a happy life, and they just weren’t able to do it.  Then more questions began going through my head.  Do these trainers, and owners really care about these horses?  I mean do they consider them a pet?  If they did I think they would do anything in their power to keep them alive.  I think the owners of Eight Belles and the other horses in the derby are simply dollar signs to these people.  Eight Belles finished second in the Kentucky Derby, and I hope she is up in the pasture in the sky having fun and running around.

My uncle takes horses in that have been starved and abused and he rehabs them.  I go down there and simply fall in love with the horses, there is one horse that my Uncle has had for quite some time, Ole Blue, and although I am not down there all the time, I love that horse.  He has such a great personality, he can let himself out of his stall in the morning, and he turns on the light, and wakes up the other horses and lets them out.  I mean come on, horses are amazing animals.   Anyway, the above picture is of Ole Blue.

Random Fact #2

You may think of me as a procrastinator.

You’d probably be right.

I work best under pressure.  It’s the journalist in me.  I have a paper due in three weeks…I start it the night before it’s due.  It’s just the way I work, I can’t help it.

Random Fact #1

I decided to do random facts about me on my blog, to help the people who read this get to know me better.  So, that’s what  I am going to do.  Anyway, here is my first random fact:

Since turning 18 I have changed my mind about what I wanted to be way too much, 18 I wanted to be a massage therapist, 19 I wanted to be an accountant, 20 I wanted to be a nurse, then I took some time off, and now at 22 I decided I wanted to be a journalist.  I am quite confident that this one will stick ;)

There you have it.  My random fact for the day.

Things I’m lovin…

Writing!  I suppose this isn’t anything new to those of you who know me.  In November I participated in NaNoWriMo and wrote a 50,000 word novel in a month.  As of right now, I have set that novel aside and don’t want to even think about it.  But, I am currently working on a novel that stems from a dream I had about a week ago.  We’ll see how it goes.

Sidney Crosby….HAHA just kidding.  The Pens are playing the New York Rangers in the second round of the playoffs and well I am cheering on the Pens, the less evil of the two teams…which in turn means cheering for Sidney Crosby…….first time ever.

Sleeping, I don’t seem to be able to get enough sleep lately, probably because it’s the end of the semester and I am about to lose my mind.  Also, my god daughter, Kelsie, she is pretty freaking awesome.  The other day I picked her up and patted her bottom and could tell her diaper was wet, so I laid her down to change her diaper, and as soon as I opened the diaper I found a surprise, and Kelsie began to laugh.  I had to tell her that she was lucky I loved her because if I didn’t I wouldn’t find that funny.  She just smiled.  It cracked me up, Kelsie is only 9 weeks old *almost* so she already has pretty good timing.

I don’t think I need to say anything else about that…I am addicted, it is not good.

So there you have it, some of my favorite things right now.  Enjoy.

I.am.a.slacker.

I always feel like I don’t have anything exciting to blog, especially after hockey blogging.  I feel like, I’m not interesting enough or whatever.  Anyway, regardless, here I am, blogging about my life, which has suddenly gotten more interesting.

School, is great, I am extremely happy with my classes and my teachers.  My mom always laughs because I have awesome teachers that love me and are really laid back.

Family, is amazing too.  I am going to be an Aunt in September, can’t wait!!!!!!  I’m starting to get along better with my dad which is good.  He really hurt my feelings in November, and I am just now getting over it.  My mom and I are really close which is good, I love hanging out with her and am really happy she’s my mom and one of my best friends.  My brother and sister in law are great.  They are living with my sister in laws grandparents while they look for a house.  My brother and I are closer than we’ve ever been which is really important to me.

Friends, my friends are amazing.  Kelley and I are really close and I find myself living vicariously through her with the baby and everything.  It’s been so much fun to see Kelsie grow, she will be 3 weeks old on Thursday and seriously couldn’t be any cuter.  I go over to Kel’s and just hold her the entire time, it is fabulous.

Life is good.  I am happy, and that, is what really matters.

Sleeeeeeeeepy

Oh my goodness, I spent a few hours at my friend Kelley’s house today, she’s Kelsie’s mom, and man am I exhausted.  I know she’s not mine, but I wanted to help Kelley as much as I could, because Kyle went back to work today.  It was so fun to help her get a bath, change her diaper, put her in her clothes, take tons of pictures, and feed and cuddle her all day.  She’s an absolute cutie and I love her so much.  Anyway, I have a few goals for myself that I want to try in the next week or so, so if you care…here we go…

  • I want to cook meals at least three times in the next week.  I tend to eat out way too much so this will help me save some money.
  • All my laundry needs to get done.
  • Finish reading my book that I have to write a review on, and then come up with questions for the interview with the author.
  • Organize my room.
  • Blog on here every single day.

That’s about it.  I am going to head to bed.  I am sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy.  Night!!

Scribble Post

In honor of Brandice!!

OH ITS A BLIZZARDDDD

Alright, I have been in a bad mood all day, so here goes my attempt at posting a happy little blog.  I woke up at about 7 and texted Sarah to see if I could wait to go into work at 10.  Which I ended up doing, then when I got there, I got an order faaaaaaaaaaaar away, which normally I wouldn’t mind but with the snow and everything else, it wasn’t fun.  It took me an hour just to get up there, where I almost wrecked about 2 times, and saw a ton of cars driving off the road.  Anyway, so I make my way up to the office and when I get there I’m on empty, well my gas is on empty.  I called Sarah to tell her I just got there, and she said that the office had just closed.  GREEATTTTT.  I had to wait there until the rep got there and took the food and I headed to get some gas.  It was about 11:15 when I got on the road, and headed home, I drove down 75, sliding all over the place.  Finally I made it to the final stretch and hadn’t had any moments where I felt like I had no control, but as I was getting off our exit, my car did a 360…yea not cool.  Thankfully, I was fine, and no one hit me.  I headed home and walked in right at 1:15 it took me exactly TWO hours to get home.  Anyway, I have been in a grumpy mood all day and probably will be the rest of the day.  Oh well, happy Friday everyone, be safe.

Stuff for today…

So, in my crazy busy life, I am going to try to find time to write on my personal blog more.  I feel like I neglect this place.  So, here we go.  I have my first mid-term today in my Race and Gender in the Mass Media class.  I am kind of nervous, but whatever I’m sure I will be fine.  I have only missed one of the classes.  My Math class is going well, I am passing, so that’s all that matters I suppose.  Speech is wonderful I have a 99% and got a 97% on my speech, I decided the 3 percentage points I was missing went away because I got way too nervous.  I hate talking in front of people, but when it’s not just me talking…I’m fine.  Oh well.  College Writing is great, I guess, I don’t really feel challenged at all, I write papers, I get A’s…maybe he should give me a topic to write about…haha.  Anyway, I guess I should go, people are loud, and they are annoying me.  Seeeeeeeee ya.

Kelsie Girl :)

KelsieWell, here she is my little cutie!!  Well not mine, but you get the idea.  She is such a cutie, and changes every single day!  I can’t believe that I haven’t seen her since Friday!!  Kelley’s husband goes back to work next week and I am hoping to spend some extra special time with Kelsie, and hopefully give Kelley a bit of a break.  According to Kelley, Kelsie girl likes to sleep and slept 7 hours the other night SEVEN HOURS and she’s not even a week old.  Anyway, I am sure I will post more pictures of my best friends little girl soon.  But, I adore this kid!!
